Popular Methods For Attaching House Slate and Stone Signs
Author: homefan / Category: Home Design, Home ImprovmentWhen it comes to hanging up your new house sign, whether it’s made of slate or stone, there are many different methods that you can use. Typically the option your choose will be decided upon the material that has been used and the design of the product itself. Although there are many ways to hang up a house sign, here are some of the more common methods.
Screw Fixing
Attaching house signs to your outside wall with screws is very straight forward and is one of the most commonly used methods of doing so. However before you attach your house sign, ensure that you use the correct type of nail – otherwise your sign will be at risk.

Typically you should look to use stainless steel screws, or solid brass as many of the other popular types of screw, such as ordinary steel screws and brass coated screws are going to rust. Many people believe that galvanised screws will be fine for the job, but they will also rust once the coating has become scratched.
If you use nails that rust, not only are you risking your sign falling to the floor, but based on the material used, could also rust as well. Slate and Stone as a material is susceptible to staining and you want to avoid this if you want your sign to look its best for years to come!
Hidden Fixing
The first thing to mention about hidden fixings is that they tend not to be suitable for every type of house sign and tend to be limited to those that are 20mm or thicker. So if you want to attach your sign by the hidden method, make sure yours will be suitable before you make a purchase!
The theory behind hidden fixing is pretty straight forward, essentially one or two pins (one for smaller, two for larger signs) are attached to the back of the sign and are placed into a hole in the wall that has been drilled in a downward motion.
This is usually secure enough, however for added re-assurance many people will also glue the sign in place, this is often recommended for larger signs.
